How Many Posts Do You Need to Write Before Your Blog Starts to Become Successful?

ladder of success

This is a guest post by Alexis Bonari

You’ve taken the plunge and decided to start your blog. You created a great design, you set up profiles on social media, and you’re writing a few times a week, if not every day. Yet … the numbers aren’t coming in.

You get a few site visitors, but not nearly enough to start commanding higher ad rates. You’ve made a few cents from advertising, but it’s not nearly enough to buy a cup of coffee — let alone to quit your day job.

You decide to give it time. After all, Rome wasn’t built in a day, and a successful blog takes time to build, as well. Yet after months of plugging along writing content consistently, you haven’t noticed a change.

What gives? How many posts do you need to write before your blog starts to become successful?

The Answer: It Depends

There is no magic number that you will reach and turn your blog into a money-making machine. Some blogs can become wildly successful after only a month, while others may toil for years without breaking 100 visitors per month.

Most bloggers will tell you that they hit the turning point on their blog after they had written about 200 posts. For others, it wasn’t about number. They simply saw a shift after they had been updating regularly for about six months to a year.

That’s when the traffic really started to increase, and they seemed to start to gain some momentum. However, that’s not necessarily going to be what happens for every blogger.

The Key: Quality Content

The only thing you can know for sure is that if you want to create a successful blog, you have to write quality content and you have to write it on a regular basis.

You may write 200 posts in two months, but it doesn’t mean your blog will suddenly turn the corner and start channeling massive traffic. On the other hand, you may write only 50 posts that are thorough, authoritative, and incredibly useful and you may start getting more traffic than you ever expected.

The key to success is quality content. Every single time you publish, you have to make sure it’s the best post it can be. After publishing great content on a consistent basis, your readers will start to know that they can expect quality from your blog, and they will share your posts with others and recommend you — and that’s how you will get more traffic effortlessly.

The other key to your success is to post regularly. You don’t have to publish every day. Some of the top bloggers only post two to four times per month.

However, if you aren’t posting on a regular basis, your site will fall in Pagerank because Google won’t have fresh content to index. You must supply fresh content to your site on a regular basis, and it must be quality content. Doing so will help you to increase your page rank quickly and get the traffic you need.

The bottom line:

Though many bloggers have found that they started to get more traffic after having published an average number of posts, there is no magic number that you can expect to reach and get results.

The only thing you can count on is that publishing top-quality content on a regular basis will help you grow your blog and make it the success you hope for it to be.

Did you find that your blog started getting more traffic after you published a certain number of posts? Share your thoughts on what it takes to finally “make it” with your blog in the comments!
