More Ways To Build Traffic To Your Blog
1. Start an affiliate program for your blog a la Allen Says
Read the post I wrote that created a small controversy about this issue.
And while you’re reading it, remember that what I said here was not that you should not ask people to link to your blog, but ask them to do it for the right reasons!
Ok enough of that. I think Allen is doing a very smart thing by creating a multi-tier affiliate program for his blog.
But contrary to what people think, its not very hard to do that at all, nor does it take a great deal of money.
All it takes is a decent programmer and a designer to create
- A database to store your affiliate’s information
- The code that passes on the affiliate values to your webpage
- The banners and stuff that your affiliates can use to link to you
You can find cheap coders on Rentacoder. And of course you’d need someone to manage your multi-tier program and send out your affiliate commissions.
2. Another way to get a sudden rush of traffic is to blog about something topical, something fresh, something that everyone is currently searching for.
Here’s how you do it. Subscribe to the Wordtracker list of top 500 frequently searched words on the Internet.
Check out which of these topics relates closely to your blog. Enter that keyword into Google news alerts and subscribe for the latest news on that keyword.
I found that when I blogged about the Bazee issue and about the Tsunami, I got a sudden rush of traffic and even got linked to from a number of other high traffic blogs.
On that note, imagine if the Bazee CEO, Avnish Bajaj, had a blog, how easy it would be for him to explain his side of the issue to his audience, without having it distorted by the press.
