12 Success Habits of Successful People to Become a Successful Person
People who accomplish great things possess certain traits of successful people. And I don’t mean morning habits or routines or daily habits. It has more to do with a mindset – the success mindset, attitudes, and habits of thought that give some people an edge in helping them achieve their dreams.
So have you’ve ever wondered what highly-successful people do differently in their quest to achieve great things? Here are some of the success habits of successful people that you can adopt to help you become more successful.
1. Successful people set goals
It is essential to have goals because you need a focal point. Most successful people who accomplish great things set long-term goals for themselves and break them into short-term goals.
If you aim at nothing, you will hit it every time. ~ Zig Ziglar
On a piece of paper, write down 5 to 10 goals that you want to achieve by a certain age. Which one is the most important to you? Focus on that goal as much as possible.
At the end of each day/week/month/year, ask yourself if you’ve made a little more progress on your biggest goal. If you haven’t, what can you do differently in order to achieve it?
2. Successful people are self-driven
Most successful people are “Do-ers.” They take action. They get things done. People who accomplish great things never let go of their purpose or why they started, because they understand that success is not an accident.
Success is not an accident, success is a choice. ~ Stephen Curry
Successful entrepreneurs are self-driven. They don’t wait for others to give them permission to do what they should already be doing. They achieve success because they are willing to get in alignment and take inspired action on their goals.
3. Successful people believe in themselves
Before you can accomplish anything you must believe that success is possible. Successful people believe in themselves and their potential.
Believe you can….and you are halfway there! ~ Theodore Roosevelt
If you lack self-belief and self-confidence, your doubts will hold you back and prevent your goals from coming to fruition. Instead of thinking “I could never succeed at that” turn it around to “If they did it, I can do it too”.
4. Successful people are optimistic
Optimism is a key characteristic of successful people. They don’t worry about the things they can’t change or the negative emotions that will hold them back.
As Disney CEO, Bob Iger said:
“What I’ve really learned over time is that optimism is a very, very important part of leadership. No one wants to follow a pessimist… You can be skeptical, you can be realistic, but you can’t be cynical. If your boss is Eeyore, do you want to work with someone like that? Oh, bother.”
Another reason why optimism is one of the most important qualities of a successful person is that it will give you the resilience to bounce back after the inevitable setbacks and failures you will face along your journey.
5. Successful people take responsibility for their lives
Successful people take 100% responsibility for their situation and for their lives. To be successful in an entrepreneurial venture you need to have a positive outlook on life and see the possibilities all around you.
If you like to play the blame game or whine about why this or that isn’t working out for you, or make excuses for your lack of success, you will continue to be what you are now – unsuccessful.
6. Successful people choose their responses carefully
Most successful people are not more blessed than others. They have seen tragedy and heartbreak too. However, they know that it’s not what happens to you that matters, but how you respond to it.
“It’s not what happens to you that matters, but how you respond to it.”
They just refuse to be the victims of circumstances and channel their pain into transformation. They choose how they want to respond to situations instead of having knee-jerk responses to them.
Yes, it takes practice to slow down one’s responses enough to focus them in the direction we want, but if you want to succeed in life you can learn meditation and mindfulness to help you focus your thoughts and choose more appropriate and healthy responses to situations.

In his MasterClass on Mindfulness and Meditation, Jon Kabat-Zinn teaches you how to cultivate a mindfulness practice, reduce your stress, and soothe your thoughts with meditation and movement. He shares expert tips and guidance that meet you where you are to help you make the most of being alive.
7. Successful people are solution-focused
Successful people spend most of their time focused on solutions, not problems. They know that the problem is at a different vibration than the solution.
To be a successful entrepreneur you must be able to access the answers you need by staying focused on the solution, not on the problem.
We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them. ~ Albert Einstein
8. Successful people have a growth mindset
One of the key qualities of a successful person is that they have a growth mindset – they believe they can learn the skills they need to succeed.
People who have a growth mindset tend to achieve more than those with a fixed mindset – those who believe their talents are innate.
It’s not that I’m so smart. It’s just that I stay with problems longer. ~ Albert Einstein
Successful business people think about what they want, learn new skills, and find better ways to achieve their goals. In the internet age, they know that any business skills they need to learn are just a click away.
9. Successful people have a high EQ
One of the qualities of successful people is that they know the importance of soft skills, such as excellent communication and interpersonal skills, that can help them build authentic relationships in their personal and business lives.
Successful leaders have high Emotional Intelligence or EQ (Emotional Quotient) and are willing to learn the skills they need to win friends and influence people.
As Dr Marshall Rosenberg, who pioneered Non-Violent Communication (NVC), said, “We are dangerous when we are not conscious of our responsibility for how we behave, think, and feel.”

10. Successful people have faith & trust
The most successful people have faith when working toward their goals. They refrain from giving in to impatience (which is a lack of faith and trust in the Universe).
They know that everything takes time, that all things have a gestation period, and are not discouraged if they fail to achieve their goals quickly. They know that the rewards of success are great and that they do not come overnight.
Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up. ~ Thomas Edison
Successful people are willing to have faith and trust in the intelligence of the Universe while they do the work it takes to accomplish their dreams.
11. Successful people are courageous
Successful people are prepared to take calculated risks towards achieving their goals. They are willing to invest time, money, and effort in their dreams, and don’t give up because they’re afraid of the prospect of failure.
For example, Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated for taking action against racial injustice. Because of his courage in working towards racial equality, his dream has become a reality for so many African Americans today, even if he did not benefit directly from it.
Someone’s sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago. ~ Warren Buffett
12. Successful people know the value of their time
Successful people don’t spend their focus on low-value jobs. They understand the benefits of outsourcing work and freeing up time to focus on high-value jobs.
There are two kinds of actions you can choose to take:
- Actions that move you in the direction of your goals
- Actions that do not move you in the direction of your goals
It is human nature to do the easy tasks first, but these are usually the actions that will not move the needle for your business. This is the Antithesis to success.
Successful entrepreneurs focus only on the actions that move them in the direction of their goals. They don’t spend time on actions that don’t move the needle in their business.
What are the tasks you perform every day to move you closer to your goals? Are they worth $50 an hour or $500 an hour? Would you pay someone else $50 or $500 an hour to do what you did today?
Remember you only get paid for results. If you could do only 1 thing, 2 things, or 3 things all day long, what would contribute the most value to your business? Do fewer things, spend more time on those things, and outsource the rest.
Do what you do best and outsource the rest. ~ Peter Drucker
Ask yourself – of all the results that I could get, what one result would help my business the most? What business skills do I need to learn to make that happen?
Your weakest skill will be the barrier to your business growth unless you learn how to outsource it. Much of the stress and burnout entrepreneurs face is caused by emotional addiction to unproductive work.
