There’s no need for frustration, folks. Today, I’ll be sharing 8 effective ways to get followers on Twitter.
1. Post at the Best Times
First and foremost, it’s important you’re posting at a reasonable time to reach your audience, based on where you live. Early mornings, lunchtime, and after work are typically the best times to post for most people.
Research states that the time between 3 PM to 1 AM is the optimal time to share on social media, with social traffic being at its highest in the late afternoon.
Most social media experts will tell you that this is true as they schedule their tweets for later in the day when people are done with work and catching up with their social media feeds.
If you’re just setting up your Twitter account from scratch, start posting at random times to figure out which times work best for your brand.
Once you start doing this, your Twitter account should start analyzing the best times to post.
2. Tweet More Often
One of the easiest tactics to get followers on a Twitter account is to tweet more often. The more you share, the more followers you get.
Some of the reasons this works so well are because:
- You become more practised and effective at tweeting
- You’re more active and can interact with more people and
- You have a larger volume of valuable tweets for people to interact with.
A good amount to tweet per day is anywhere between 3 and 7 tweets to maximize engagement. Some brands even tweet as often as 15 or 20 times per day.
When you tweet, make sure it’s not only about you. Reposting or retweeting other posts such as relevant industry articles, buzz-worthy stats, breaking news, etc. also is a great way to get noticed.
If you know that a piece of evergreen content is popular and gets good engagement on Twitter, can use a social media scheduler like Social Oomph to retweet it every few days.
That way you’ll be able to reuse good content for more engagement, shares and Twitter followers.
3. Post More Visual Content
Humans are visual, so you can safely assume that tweets containing visual content will receive more likes, shares, and retweets than those without them.
While there’s nothing wrong in posting solely text-based tweets, images, videos and GIFs are better poised to grab the attention of serial scrollers and encourage them to take a look at your post.
Something as simple as a colourful image posted with a link to your blog post should work great. Posts that include GIFs or memes are a great option. Infographics are also shared three times more often than any other type of image on Twitter.
So put those creative brain cells to use and test out a few tweets with different types of visual content to figure out what works best for you and your audience.
4. Get on the Daily Twitter Trends Bandwagon
Trending topics such as Man Crush Monday, Flashback Friday or Motivation Monday are very popular trends to tweet about on social media.
Though your brand may not fit all of these categories, there are specific themes, such as quotes or humour that you can use in any industry.
For instance, if your brand is related to digital marketing, sharing a motivational marketing quote or tip with your followers at the start of each week could be valuable… and possibly the next trending tweet!
Hashtags are a great way to make your tweets searchable, almost as a form of SEO for your Twitter account.
According to research, tweets with at least one hashtag receive 12.6% more engagement than tweets without them (yes, that makes sense).
Hashtags are a way for people who are also searching for those topics to easily find you – and possibly get more followers for your account.
So for example, if you were posting about “How to Get Followers on Twitter,” you could include quick hashtags such as #GrowYourFollowing #GetFollowers or #GainFollowers.
There are also the standard hashtags to include at the end of your tweet in order to get the audience you want. For instance, if you’re a travel blogger, you can include #travelblogger as a hashtag for every tweet.
Of course, the hashtags you use must be related to the topic of your tweet. You could use popular trending hashtags such as #MotivationMonday or #tbt and share some related tweets regarding those hashtags.
Additionally, you can piggyback on event-based hashtags as well (example: sporting events, awards shows, etc.) if your content is related to them.
6. Be Positive!
Sharing positive posts is the best way for your content to potentially go viral and gain followers for your Twitter account. Why be negative, right?
Some data states that people are much more likely to share positive content, especially when it connects to emotions such as curiosity, amazement, interest, astonishment, and uncertainty.
Always stay positive, don’t go negative – there’s enough negativity in the world already, so don’t add to it.

Like most social media apps, you only get a few seconds of attention for people to decide if they want to follow you or not, so be strategic and make good use out of this strategy!
When you set up a Twitter profile, make sure it’s complete – meaning that you describe what you do, your title, what companies you work with and where you operate.
A Dash of Personality:
Easily share a sense of who you are to your community! You can also add your interests to your bio using hashtags if you tweet often about a specific topic.
