The Rise of Business Blogging
I enjoyed Steve Rubel’s new article on The Rise of Business Blogging so much, I reprinted it on my website.
Rubel uses the example of Microsoft to illustrate how ordinary employees like Joshua Allen and Robert Scoble were instrumental in softening the software giant’s image from a bullying monopolist to that of a friendlier, more open and trustworthy company.
Microsoft’s bloggers are now of the company’s greatest marketing assets, generating incredible online and offline word of mouth.
What made the blogs such a success was that they reflected individual voices rather than corporate PR-speak.
Rubel goes on to explain what blogs are and describe the impact they are having as a marketing tool.
He recommends that you take these initial steps before you jump into the blogosphere.
- Listen: Become acquainted with the power of blogs by reading them and see what they’re talking about.
- Reach Out: Once you have identified influential blogs, reach out to them by carefully posting comments on their sites.
- Launch Your Own Blogs: Once you feel you have a firm grasp on the medium, roll your own weblogs.
He concludes that blogs are one of the most cost effective tools you can use to reach influencers who will recommend you to others.
