Bloggers Denounce Racist RJs
Blogs seem to be becoming a hotbed for online activism. In the latest example of bloggers acting as activists, many of them posted about an incident involving an abusive call made by two prominent radio jockeys to a call centre in India that outraged listeners and prompted demands for the duo's resignation.
Although the radio station pulled the segment from their website, one blogger posted the audio file on his own website.
Ed Champion posted the full transcript and noted
Apparently, the wakeup crew at Philadelphia's Power 99 radio think that it's absolutely hilarious to call a customer service line outsourced to India and berate an employee with sexist and racist banter.
Another blogger asked people to voice their outrage at the station's management by calling with and/or writing a strongly worded response.
The live call, made during the Philadelphia-based morning show of RJs Star and Bucwild, ended with one of the RJ's repeatedly calling the female call centre employee a 'bitch' and a 'rat eater' and threatening to choke her.
It’s common to hear of call-center workers being abused by irate customers, but these guys are just scum bags, and it’s comforting to see the blogging community voicing their outrage over their behaviour and language.
